Starting a Meditation Group
If there is no meditation group in your area you may feel called to start a group yourself. Being a Group Leader and facilitating a group is a wonderful way to share the gift of meditation.
To get started:
- Contact your local Area Team member to let them know what you are planning and ask for their support. See https://wccm.uk/wp-content/uploads/newsletters/_Contacts.pdf.
- Attending an Essential Teaching Workshop is a great preparation for starting a group. You could ask your Area Team member or the UK Office (uk@wccm.org) whether there are any planned in your local area or online.
- Have a look at ‘A Pearl of Great Price’ published by Medio Media https://mediomedia.com/products/mmpea2 and the ‘Start a Group’ resources on the International website https://wccm.org/teaching-resources/start-a-group/.
- Offering an introductory course can be a good way to get a new group. See details of the new ‘Four Week Introductory Course here: https://wccm.org/teaching-resources/introductory-four-week-course/
- Contact the WCCM in the UK Office (uk@wccm.org) for further information on starting a group and ask for a registration pack. The pack contains lots of helpful information to get your group started.
Please see below quotes from some of our Group Leaders:
“When my husband, a friend and I decided to start a local meditation group, I was anxious that I lacked the expertise, despite having meditated for some years. From the beginning we were supported by helpful material provided by the Meditatio Centre, in particular Laurence Freeman’s booklet A Pearl of Great Price. I can honestly say that leading a group has been one of the most satisfying and rewarding things I have ever done. I have learned so much from the other members of the group, and it has deepened my own practice. I am so pleased that we took the plunge!”

“Starting and facilitating a meditation group is a blessing which I trust has helped us all to keep going and deepen our practice. I have learned a lot and made some lifelong friends.”
