It is over 30 years since I first came across the writing of John Main and Laurence Freeman and started to meditate. What John Main had to say seemed very new to me then but as I persevered with the practice so much life-giving truth opened up: the absolute reality of God, the amazing person of Jesus, the extraordinary healing and always surprising guidance of the Spirit, the primacy of love. The Bible then started to reveal its deep wisdom and inspiration in a way I could never have imagined.
After a while I began to read the Christian mystics, where I found wonderful companions who both seemed to understand me and gave me glimpses of further shores. I also realised that John Main was not in fact teaching anything new but, just as he said, speaking of what had always been at the mystical heart of Christianity.
This way of meditation has been the greatest gift in my life and so I have ended up with a quiet passion to teach it to anyone else who might want to know about it.

In a way teaching it simply means to sit and meditate with others and help them on their way. In practice this usually means leading meditation groups, in person and on-line; facilitating introductory and follow-on courses; leading meditation days and retreats; and teaching and mentoring new meditation teachers. It has taken me to Ireland, France, Scandinavia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Poland, New Zealand, Australia and the USA as well as all round the UK – and shown me what John Main meant when he observed ‘meditation creates community’.
