The wonderful new venue is in the same area of Lancashire: Shekinah Christian Centre (shekinah.org.uk).
This small quiet prayer centre has been built from what was once a cow shed in a working Lancashire dairy and sheep farm. It overlooks stunning views of the rural countryside and is very quiet. It was converted, over many recent years, through prayer, faith, trust, patience and hard work of a small number of Christians from various denominations feeling called to create “A place of peace, love and tranquillity.” It really does fulfil our search for a place of stillness, silence and simplicity.
It is small and although it can accommodate up to 21 overnight guests with shared occupancy, it only has 9 rooms for single occupancy as required for a silent retreat. Access to the centre is by car, or train to Nelson and then a 5-mile taxi ride.
Please note that this is not part of The Shekinah Church or other Shekinah groups that internet searches come up with, but is the Shekinah Christian Centre, Burnley.
I have recently visited and stayed overnight at Shekinah. The manger, staff and trustees are friendly, welcoming and very generous in time and care. It was a very homely, warm and comfortable visit.
A reminder that this retreat is run under the auspices of WCCM in the UK School and is in the traditional format of ‘School’ or ‘Deep Silent’ retreats, with complete immersive silence and seven times of meditation each day.

6-Day Silent Retreat
The 6 Day Silent Retreat is a residential opportunity suitable for people who have begun to integrate the John Main tradition of meditation into daily life. Retreat leaders will assume that participants are familiar with the Essential Teaching of John Main as they lead you into seven periods of meditation each day. Supporting the periods of meditation are contemplative walks, short talks, lectio divina and regular one to one opportunities to talk with the group leaders.
The retreat offers the profound and integrated experience of solitude with fellowship. It is an opportunity to enter into the heart of the tradition taught by John Main.
